Well, we are coming down to the wire. We are all ready. We have all the gadgets, the clothes, the room is done, the car seat installed and we have taken all of our classes. Now it's just waiting. I am enjoying this peaceful time, knowing that soon our life will be changed forever. At the same time, it is getting harder everyday to remain patient. The baby is getting bigger (and his kicks are getting stronger) and I'm getting more uncomfortable.
Heartburn - uugggghhhh! Other than that, no complaints. The baby is moving around a lot, which is really cool. It's strange and miraculous and crazy and totally normal all at the same time. Jim and I have been working on the baby's room and it's coming along. We have the crib together and his dressers (which were in our bedroom, we just moved them downstairs) are set up and filled with his new clothes. We have new blue curtains up and his name - Vaughn - in blue and white letters above his crib. I still have a couple of more things to do in there, but it's getting there.
This week we go to our childbirth class orientation and then a full day of class on the 13th of October. We also have our childcare class and breastfeeding class coming up. It's hard to believe that our due date is 2 months away. I know it will go by very quickly, but lately it feels like it's moving very slowly. There is so much to think about - what will he look like, what will his personality be like, etc., etc. Right now I am trying not to think about too much, just looking forward to enjoying our life with this new little person in it.
Wow. I can't believe that we are more than halfway through this pregnancy! Today is 22 weeks and my birthday.
I have to say, just like everyone told me, the second trimester is great compared to the first. I feel great these days. I do overdo it once in a while and then I'm pretty tired, but as long as I remember that I need more rest than usual, I'm okay. I am feeling some gurgling, butterfly kind of sensations and it may be the baby moving around, but I'm not sure.
I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. We were going to have an ultrasound this week hoping to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl (yes, we want to know), but it's still a little too early. We have another ultrasound scheduled for July 5th and that should be perfect timing (as long as the baby cooperates).
Jim is over his first trimester sickness as well. He's feeling much better and eating again. I think we are both getting used to the idea of me being pregnant and realizing that life continues pretty much the same for the time being (at least until the baby arrives and then nothing will ever be the same).
So, I admit that I've been really bad at keeping up with this journal. Here's a quick update of what's been going on with my pregnancy. I'm over the first trimester hump. I was pretty exhausted for about 6 weeks or so. Now I feel more like myself and although I still feel sick from time to time, I'm much better overall.
I hit week 13 and overnight none of my clothes fit anymore. My friend, Karen Valentine, gave me a tip. She said to use a rubber band on the button of my jeans, loop it through the button hole and then back onto the button. I was heading out to the supermarket and decided to give it a try. I put on the rubber band, zipped up my jeans and pulled my shirt over my jeans and went shopping. When I got home I looked in the mirror and although the rubber band was still in place, my shirt had ridden up and my zipper had fallen down, showing my multi-colored striped undies to the world. I guess I walked around the whole supermarket like that! At least I had a shopping cart in front of me most of the time. Needless to say I went to the mall first thing the next morning and bought some maternity clothes. That was a strange experience, walking into "Motherhood Maternity" for the first time. I ended up buying a pair of sweats, a nice pair of linen pants (without those hideous waistbands - which everyone tells me I will love later on), a hoodie and a couple of tank tops. It's a good start and should last me a little while.
Oh, many congratulations to you! I never made it that far with my baby... He decided to come right at... read more
